The growth of data centers is inevitable. Two huge environmental concerns regarding data centers are (a) their effect on the neighboring electric grid and (b) their water consumption. I read on the news that AI firms are investing into nuclear energy. There is a thought on putting data centers in space so that they can leverage unbridled solar energy. But the problem of water consumption is still there. The “beginnings” of my potential solution is to build a sort of a “greenhouse” that traps the evaropated water and condense it back for reuse. Essentially, perhaps, the data center is constructed inside an artificially constructed water body and then the whole area is surrounded in a greenhouse so that the water used for cooling evaporates and then condenses back.
